(Summary description)In recent years, the competition in the printing industry has become increasingly fierce, and the profits of printing companies are generally low. Under the premise of ensuring printing quality, printing companies have shown their magic in reducing costs. Some companies have improved work efficiency, and some companies have reduced downtime. The accurate pre-inspection of the color samples by the pre-press department can improve production efficiency and reduce costs from the source, which is worth trying for printing companies. The author has been engaged in color pre-inspection work for many years, and I share my methods and experience with my colleagues here, hoping to help. What is color preflight?
Color preflight is to use the customer’s electronic file to simulate the factory’s printing output effect in the form of soft proofing or digital draft without printing on the machine, and then compare and evaluate with the actual color sample provided by the customer, and The process of pre-adjusting electronic files. Color pre-checking can carry out corresponding color management in advance for the customer's electronic files and physical color samples to achieve the best color matching, with fast speed and low cost.
Customer's actual color samples are generally divided into two categories: standard color samples and non-standard color samples. Among them, non-standard color samples can be subdivided into printed samples and finished samples.
Standard color sample pre-check
Standard color swatches are digital color swatches printed in accordance with Gracol_2006, Forga39L and other standards. Standard color samples can be compared with electronic files using the method of soft proofing on the screen during color pre-checking. It is best to use an industry-certified display such as EIZO for the soft proofing display, and use ColorNavigator, i1Profile, Profilemaker and other software and professional equipment for calibration on a regular basis. Similarly, digital printers used by printing companies also need to be calibrated regularly. Similar software such as PS and Acrobat should also be embedded with ICC feature files such as SWOP, GRACOL, Forga, and the electronic files provided by customers have removed the embedded ICC feature files. Standard lighting sources such as D50 or D65 should be used when observing the color samples.
For comparison, if the standard color sample is consistent with the display effect of the electronic file, it can be used for color matching. If there is a slight difference between the two, which is generally reflected in the standard color sample or electronic file as a whole in one direction (reddish or bluish), but the degree of color cast is within the acceptable range of normal printing color difference, it can also be followed use.
If it is found that the degree of color cast between the two has exceeded the acceptable range of printing color difference, one is to judge whether the various parameters of the screen display are within the standard range; the other is to use the measuring equipment i1 and EFI, GMG and other software to apply the standard color sample Scan the measurement and control strip to check whether the maximum and average values of the KCMY solid color blocks and gray blocks on the measurement and control strip are qualified (as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2). If the above two inspection results are normal, you can use the printing compensation curve to adjust the electronic file in advance.
